RANDY'S DIG
VENTURE INTO AMERICAN HISTORY
MAY 3RD 2007

I just want to start off my saying what a pleasure it was meeting all of the people that showed up to
the dig site and took the time to show us the ropes and sharing their collections from the site
with us. Jim - Mark - Randy - Hal ,  it was a pleasure digging with you all !!!!!!

THIS UPDATE IS LONG AND FULL OF PICTURES
LET IT LOAD FOLKS !!! ITS WORTH THE WAIT

The day started off with a little site history from Randy and a little walk around. I learned that this
property used to be owned by a german family and it was always Randy's dream to own this wonderful
piece of land ... piece of history.  When the time came, Randy jumped on the chance and bought it for himself and his family.
There was a wonderful creek about 200 yards from the dig site.. I brought along my swimming gear but
didn't get the chance to take a dip! Be sure you try it out for me when you go to Randy's Ok!!!

For those who have never been to Randy's . When Randy said that he had opened up the area of the field
what he should have said is.. This is just about the best area there is! Get it while its still available!
Don't take it as a lesser area. This area of black with snail is the best producing area that we have ever seen. The
complete point to flake ratio's are CRAZY! You just have to dig it for yourself to appreciate this wonderful site!

This dig was probably the most interesting and fun to dig place I have ever been to. What a beautiful area
and what wonderful and helpful people around to make the day a dig to remember . Here are some
of the many pictures and finds from Hal and I and Mark and Jim.  Mark won the dig for
the day hands down with the wonderful finds and wonderful Base Tang and luck of the Cache of Points.


Here we all are starting off in our nice shaded area's with the canopy's that Randy had all set up for us
Without those for shade I wouldn't have made it! What a wonderful host! VERY comfy diggin!!

We all just had a field day! (No pun intended !) There was a smile on each of our faces all day long. Digging side
by side with this crew.. made it a great day!  Well I just couldn't have asked for better company.
Mark was by far the luckiest digger of the day. I was just glad that I was there to see it all happen!

These beauty's were popping out from the left and right!! Too bad I was digging in the middle! heheh
I got a few nice pieces too though! But the guys had the luck of the big ones!

You should have seen this base tang just pop right out without a nick ! WOW MARK!!! The quality of the
points that I saw with my own eyes come out of this SMALL area that we dig.. Its just amazing quality here folks

I , Michelle, (hehe) found this one .. Not sure what it is, its got the cortex on still .. But sure is
a great little arrowhead! I wouldn't have wanted to be on the catching end of this fatty!

Hal's wonderful find of this 4 1/4 G-10 PERD was quite the site! We started taking pictures insitu
before we even knew it was complete! And BOY was it! WONDERFUL and tippy tip all there!
Hal is trying out a new technique to of photo's .. taping it to clear plastic so there isn't a finger in the photo!

You see those little notches??? WOW HAL!!!! You got you one too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Base Tang??? Did someone say Base Tang??? Wow!!! Seeing 2 people find these
wonderful Tangs .. and they were I would say, 3 ft apart too!!
You really cannot compare the base tangs that were found because there are totally unique and one of a kinds for sure!

I would have found more if I wasn't busy taking pictures of Mark and Hal and Jim!!!!!!!!! heheh

Hay there Randy!! I got some throw dirt over hear.. Do you mind moving it for me??? Randy was there with us all
day getting the dirt out of the way of our holes! THANKS RANDY!! Made it a easy dig !!!

Checking out the 2 day finds from MARK! Ahh!!! Mark got ..w ell lets say, ALOT of arrowheads for his time here at Randy's
That was a empty case when Mark got here!  With that HUGE BASE TANG, you need another case!!!!!!

Nice to finally meet you Jim!! Thanks for coming with your finds!




Jim came for a little digging and to show off some of his finds from Randy's Dig.  There are some real
quality items here in these cases people! And these are all from just Jim!!! I even got to hold that
beautiful eccentric that Jim found here !

This one here Hal found in 2 pieces! He didn't even know he had this until he went home and was cleaning
the finds for the day and was washing off the broken points and couldn't believe it! Covington!!

Here is Marks Base Tang with Hal's and a few others from Hals. You see the quality on these artifacts !
I congratulate Mark and Hal for not breaking any of there finds with picks! GREAT DAY!!!

Ok.. Here is the end of the day .. Been digging since 7:30 am .. and its 1:30 ish.
You see that time people??? I had a great dig.. Only dig one square and it took me about 6 hours. The best 6 hours of
digging that I have ever seen.. The points that I got to see come out.. The fantastic quality of
artifacts... It was totally worth it. if you haven't had the chance to go out to Randy's and do
a dig.. I would get there while the points are good! The newly opened Field might just be the best
area on the whole place!
 
 

Here are the finds to end the day!
Hal and I were all done and packing up for the day.. already said our good-byes and were loaded up
and almost in the truck.. Here comes this AHH! and WOW from Mark .. What luck this
Mark had today !!! I went over to take a peek with Randy and there were these 2 great big old
perds laying next to each other just freshly popped out with Mark's Wiggle Pick.

Hay!!!!! What cha got going on down there ?? Are those 2 perds TOGETHER!!!! WHAT!!!!
There were 5 in all. A wonderful find of a cache of 5 arrowheads !

Mark couldn't believe his eyes and neither could we!
STOP!! Grab the camera's folks!!
THERE WAS ANOTHER ONE STICKING OUT OF THE WALL WHERE THEY FELL FROM  !!!!!

See this BEAUTY sticking out of the Snail level! This was a unbelievable find!! Mark found a CACHE
of 5 arrowheads all together!! This was in the wall right there these others fell out!


This was , I think, the best of the 5 in the cache .. What a wonderful Perd!!
Now I know the meaning of " Straight as a arrow" .. This is as good as it gets here folks!!


There ended up being 5 total. I didn't get the picture of the last one. It was a broken base with these other 4 points
