Who would have thought that you could find Sharks Teeth in Austin Creeks?

There are teeth in some of Austin's and other Texas creeks. This is the largest one that I have found
to date ... So I though it fitting to be the first on the SHARK TOOTH
page!  Its a beauty I tell you.. Wish I has a better scanner...

One of the field trips this year was to NTC in Dallas, Texas. There was about a quarter mile
of freshly for the picking Austin / Eagle Ford contact zone.  I went along with a group from
Dallas Paleontological Society and what a day I had! This was a thrill to walk though the rubble that the quarry
leaves behind and find all the interesting items that the quarry has to offer up.

NTC quarry was nice enough to let us in and dig around for a 1/2 day. In the "gray" matrix is where the
contact layer was.. Out of the 100 or so foot of gray, the contact layer, I was told, is only about 10 inches thick.

The quarry was VERY deep, long ride to the bottom. Looked around down there for a while ,but, there was
NOTHING like the first picture on top. The top spliced picture was not in the bottom, that was where
they scooped out the matrix area that they do not / cannot use for cement. That is where 99% of
the teeth were.. There were also pyrite balls/forms and some crystal found.

I brought home 2 buckets of contact material to slowly sift though... I still have some left if there were
someone interested in a chuck.. Never know, you might find the BIG WHOPPER in a chuck I brought back!
Email me if you feel like sifting a chunk - below is what you could find!
